Dr. Shawna M. Heetland grew up in Ahwatukee, Arizona. She graduated in the top of her class at Xavier College Prep high school in Phoenix while earning the Regina Caeli award for overall excellence in scholastic achievement and service. She was captain of the Gael's cross country team at St. Mary's College in Moraga, California where she was named to the NCAA WCC All-Academic team. She also graduated as Valedictorian with a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in health sciences. She then attended the University of the Pacific Dental School in San Francisco to earn her Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S.) degree to become a dentist. She graduated with honors in the top of her dental class and was inducted into the Tau Kappa Omicron and Omicron Kappa Upsilon Honor Societies. She also received the Excellence in Community Service Award and was the president of the Student Community Outreach Program of Education. Then she joined the United States Air Force as a Captain and general dentist. She completed a residency in Advanced Education in General Dentistry (A.E.G.D.) at the Mike O'Callaghan Hospital at Nellis Air Force Base outside of Las Vegas, Nevada.

After completing her tour at Cannon Air Force Base in New Mexico, she returned to the University of the Pacific Dental School in San Francisco for orthodontic residency earning her Certificate in Orthodontics and Master of Science in Dentistry (M.S.D.) degree to become an Orthodontist. She also served on a medical mission as the dentist and orthodontist to treat patients with cleft lip and palates in San Salvador, El Salvador. Dr. Heetland and FamilyShe practiced in the Bay Area as an Orthodontist for two years before moving to Wichita Falls for its strong schools, family values and quality of life. She loves Orthodontics because of the positive impact she is able to make in the lives of patients. In her spare time she enjoys running, cooking and spending time with family and friends.
